Golf Course Description

Long Bay Club is rightly named as one of the most challenging and difficult courses on the Grand Strand. Golfers who are able to tame this Jack-Nicklaus course will feel strong enough to face the Golden Bear himself! What makes this course so challenging? A formidable 137 slope from the back tees, lethal mounds near the green forcing a new approach to the wedge game, deadly par 3s, deep bunkers surrounding the smaller Bermuda landing surfaces, and the famous monster 353-yard number 10 with its distinctive horseshoe shaped bunker.

The Long Bay Golf Club features long, serpentine sand traps and healthy, green fairways. The course looks a lot like it was drawn by an abstract artist who didn’t realize that sand traps don’t typically extend the length of a football field. Nonetheless, the unique and extreme layout equates to glorious and unique scenes of sports converging with nature.

The par 3s are handsome, but destruction on the scorecard. The best of the four par 3 holes is number 13, a wide island green with several tricky pin placements--players who choose too far to the left will pay a visit to the drop area. The most memorable holes include par 4s number 4 and 18, and par 5s number 11 and 15. The 472 yard number 4 is widely considered the most difficult hole on this already challenging course, including a narrow fairway guarded by waste areas and a hole requiring a left-to-right tee shot. The par 5s are similar but distinctive, both containing a dogleg—547-yard number 11 to the left, and 492-yard number 15 running to the right.

A meandering creek on the second shot and a water hazard running by the right side of the green adds to the danger. Roger Batton said of the course, "Most of the time when players walk off the course, they're not frustrated, but they're coming back because of the challenge of it."

Golf Course Reviews for Long Bay
over hyped
Such a course reveiving high reviews boggles my mind, one of the worst courses we played, it's almost like they stopped course maintenance 2 weeks before we played.

Enjoyable
I found this course to be pretty enjoyable. The staff was extremely friendly and the greens were in excellent condition. As far as how challenging the course is, I found it to be pretty forgiving for the average golfer.
Will definitely be playing this course again in the future.

Long Bay is a great course and is keep in pristine condition! Open off the tee and very tricky on second shots with most greens having two tiers. You may also want to check out the Hugh Royer Champions Golf Academy which is also at the Long Bay Club.

Killer course!
I played this one last week. Jack has a design all his own. A bit out of the way though, but not too bad. About 25 minutes from North Myrtle Beach. Well worth the drive.
